What recent guests emphasize

Balanced comfort in a prime Dorchester location

Guests appreciate the hotel’s friendly service, spacious and clean rooms, and convenient central location near major attractions. While the lack of onsite dining is noted, the availability of nearby eateries and self-catering facilities make it manageable. Some noise from interior walls and occasional maintenance issues have been reported, reflecting a mix of strengths and practical considerations.

Worth knowing

  • No breakfast service on site, but there is a designated area for takeaway meals with crockery and kitchen appliances.
  • Parking is paid, limited onsite with alternative public parking very close by; opinions on convenience vary among guests.
  • Interior noise can be an issue due to thin walls and creaky floors, which may affect light sleepers.

Great hotel! I really appreciated the complimentary drink for booking direct. The double room was so spacious. A special thank you to Lisa and Caroline as they were so willing to help. Although food isn't served on site, there are enough facilities to make it work, such as a hot drinks station, crockery, cutlery and a microwave. If the hotel's car park is full, the public car park nearby is only around a 1 minute walk away.

This hotel is good value for money - stayed for one night in November 2025 - Room 104 - double bed, chair, table and chair, tea/coffee making facilities, television, shower room with toilet and basin - wardrobe and ironing board. Place is clean and quiet and proved good value for money - it is in the High street and whilst does not do melas there are plenty of cafes, restaurants and pubs around - to meet all tastes Staff are helpful and answered any questions What I did like was that whilst not doing food it had an area to sit and eat your takeaway meals - called the canteen - it had tea/coffee making facilities plates and cutlery etc If I am in the area again I would certainly stay again

Perfect location, extremely good value. Friendly, joyful and helpful staff (shout out to the lady on reception!) Only two recommendations I'd have from a fellow in the industry would be to regularly descale the kettles, and show some attention under the bathroom sink, as these were quite built up. Would recommend to anyone, and will be staying again.

Hi my only concern this week was when the fire alarm went off early in the morning. We all gathered in the courtyard but no member of staff appeared to offer reassurance or more importantly to check we were all safe and accounted for. Have to question if there had been a fire we’re all fire safety standards for a hotel being met

Though I get why some reviews are low and I can't totally refute the noise complaints, my partner and I aren't as sensitive to noise, and slept like a baby each night we stayed, for 2 nights total. It was my birthday holiday and we decided to stay here because it was central to the places we wanted to visit mainly along the Jurassic coast. The 5 stars in my opinion were more than earned as Lisa, the hotel front desk manager, was extremely welcoming, warm, friendly and full of positive energy. Also, my partner booked a standard room but Lisa upgraded us after my partner told her it was a birthday trip. The magic doesn't stop there. On arrival, she greeted us enthusiastically, showed us to our room, which was massive with a bathroom nearly as big as the main bedroom. It had a lovely functional jacuzzi as well. On arrival, there were balloons placed on the fireplace mantle with a lovely birthday card. I really felt special and welcomed. On top of all this, Lisa offered us a complimentary round of wine. As for food, it is true that there is no kitchen or food service, but we knew this and simply went out to eat. After dinner, we returned to the hotel as the ambiance was comfortable, warm and because Lisa entertained our conversation despite us being a little tipsy . Despite lacking a restaurant, which we knew as it was clearly evident from Google maps and their website, they offered bar service and complimentary tea and coffee. Overall, I can't say a bad thing about this hotel or our stay. Also, we will % come back to the Sleeping Bear. It was such a great, comfortable and friendly experience. Highly recommend the Sleeping Bear, and this is saying a lot coming from two sleepy bears

We recently stayed for one night. The room we had was one of their suites It was spotlessly clean and the bed was so comfortable. The staff were all very friendly and helpful would not hesitate to recommend it close to all amenities which is so useful plenty of nearby places to eat

Stayed here whilst working in Dorset. Room was beautifully presented and decorated. Lovely hotel throughout and friendly staff on arrival. Not an issue that they don't serve breakfast as Weatherspoon's was a minutes walk down the road. A lot of negative reviews about the parking at the rear of the hotel. I checked in late afternoon. No issue with parking and paying using the app, so really not sure what the fuss was about! Would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly stay again if working in the area.

Super location on the high street, close to a bunch of restaurants, a Wetherspoons, and pretty much opposite the Dorset Museum. On their website they say that the rooms are sound insulated, and that is true of the outside world (not much traffic noise). However the walls INSIDE the hotel are quite thin and the floors are very creaky, so you can hear your neighbours (hence 4 stars not 5). However it is a very charming hotel if you are looking for a minimalist experience or one where you don't need to interact with people. We didn't speak to any hotel staff during our entire 3 day stay! Check-in and check-out are highly automated processes. Be aware that breakfast is NOT served at this hotel, but there are plenty of options to eat nearby.
